SLO brought orchestral music to life for families, at Hammersmith & Fulham's CommUNITY Day. With storytelling, funny costumes, and fan-favorite tunes like Pirates of the Caribbean and Jurassic Park, kids (and adults!) loved it. Activity booklets for our children added extra fun, making it a fab afternoon for all!

Social London Orchestra performed Skip Martin’s “Scheherajazz” at the Clapham Grand on Sunday 6th August. This rarely-performed piece, originally put together with the 101 Strings Orchestra and Skip Martin’s Big Band on two separate recording dates, combines the original ballet music of Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade” with big band interludes written by Martin, one of the foremost arrangers for swing bands and Hollywood films in the 30s, 40s and 50s. The members of Social London Orchestra were joined by some of London’s top jazz musicians in what was the first recorded performance of this piece on British soil. This was the final event of the 2023 Battersea Jazz Festival. The combination of an exciting work, with such a talented group of players, at one of London’s most historic entertainment venues, made for an unforgettable concert.

Either way, drop in and hear the Social London Orchestra on the 3rd of December at the O2 Centre on Finchley Road, where, from 3pm to 5pm, they will be performing beloved Christmas classics in support of Crisis and Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal (DEC). If you're feeling brave we are offering the chance for audience members, especially any younger ones, to try their hand at conducting the orchestra!

Having launched in May 2022, SLO is home to an amazing community of individuals across London who come together to rehearse and prepare non-traditional performances which are open to everyone and free at the point of access.
